Previous Game Highlights for 2010
July 26, 3rd round Tournament -VS- 1st Baptist W.C. (House)
It was HOT out, and we played like we were dried up old prunes. At least House was having problems too, or the game would have been a runaway. Pitiful offense and many defensive errors made it 3-8 after 2 and 6-12 after 4. We struggled on as time expired in the 5th with a 8-14 loss.
2nd game at 8:15 -VS- Legends was rained out in the 2nd inning. To be continued Aug 2.
July 19, 2nd round Tournament -VS- Calvary Nazarene
We started off the game with 3 runs in the top of the 1st. Scott got us going with 1 of his 2 hits on the night. In the bottom of the 1st Roger walked the leadoff man but left him stranded. Score was 3-0 after 1 inning. Leadoff triple by Ken made it 4-0 after 2 innings. We tacked on 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd and was up 6-0 and looking to cruise. Some errors by us gave them 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Our bats then went stagnant and they proceeded to close the gap to 6-5 after 6 innings. In the top of the 7th we needed more but were only able to score 1 after a leadoff double by Ken, making the score 7-5 going into the bottom of the 7th. Would our lead slip away again late? Not to be as their leadoff man swung at a bad pitch and Jeffery made a nice play for the first out. After that, Kendall made 2 straight shoestring catches to seal the victory. Pitching was outstanding as Roger gave up "0" earned runs and our outfield made many nice catches. Great game and on to the championship next week. (by Ken)
June 28, first round Tournament -VS- Immanuel Lutheran
Immanuel was seeded #3 and St. Mary's was #6. Game started out slow, but was going well for us with good defense and our bats were warming up. Score was 5-2 at the end of the 3rd when both teams turned it on, making it 12-9 in the 4th. Time was running out in the 5th with 2 outs when Steve started a rally, building in some insurance to make it 16-9. The Lutherans made a valiant effort and almost tied, but a pop fly to LC ended the game with a 16-12 win. On to the second round.
June 21 -VS- Calvary Nazarene
June 7th & 14th rainout, finally played last season game VS Calvary Nazarene on June 21. Loss 12-14. Details not available, please email me with a game summary if you can remember one.
May 24th -VS- Calvary Young Guns
After struggling pitching on both sides in the 1st we were behind 1-2. St. Mary's continued struggling with pitching, while the Guns pitching settled in. Some good offense plus defensive errors on both teams resulted in a 7-3 lead into the 4th. Not good enough, so Coach Stadler's team meeting pep talk resulted in St. Mary's batting around in the 4th, and a 16-5 lead. We held tight in the 5th at 16-9, and the game was called for time in the 6th. Despite suddenly hot weather (and matching tempers) we pulled off the 16-9 win.
May 17th -VS- Calvary Legends
We were kinda wondering where the St. Mary's team was. That couldn't have been us out there. Legends is out of our league, but still we could have done better. It started out bad, we were behind in the first inning 0-4 with 3 left on. It just got worse from there: defense errors, offense poor, even a couple Ks. The field was in terrible shape due to weekend rain, and it was a cloudy dark evening. There were a couple bright spots, great 3rd tagout by Kendall/Pete, Steve & Jeffery had nice hits up the middle, but in the end it wasn't enough and the game was called for run-rule with a 4-16 loss.
May 3rd -VS- Immanuel Lutheran
Good game! Most everything went our way: we won the coin toss for home team, we weren't asleep the first inning like we usually are, and the hits just kept on coming, including Matt Lansford's and Stu Price's home runs. Tight defense and few errors made it 6-2 after 1 and 8-3 after 2. We laid back thru the 3rd & 4th, but turned it on again in the 5th to jump out 16-3. It might have been more except a certain TV celebrity had another run-in at 3rd base, but we won't mention that here. Immanuel tried to come back, but the defense held and we walked away with a 16-3 win on a beautiful spring evening.
April 26th -VS- Carl Junction Baptist
Well, we had 3 good innings. But, we had 5 *bad* innings. After trading hits and keeping defense tight for the first few innings, we pulled ahead to 5-3 in the 5th, then 7-5 into the 6th. Then the errors really started. CJ tied at 7-7, and we had a chance to win in the bottom of the 6th, but base running errors killed that. The 7th was a quick 3-outs on both sides, and in the 8th, CJ just HAMMERED the ball, making it 7-16. We were home team, and battled back to 13-16, but too little too late, and we took a loss.
April 19th -VS- 1st Baptist Webb City (House)
We played against The House, under a new name, but they were the same House of the last few years. After being declared the home team, we quickly fell behind 16-0 before even getting to bat. We scored seven of our own runs in the bottom of the first. Then traded runs for a while before we made a late effort to get back into the game falling short and finishing with a 27-23 loss. We did not play terrible, a few unfortunate plays here and there, but just a lot of good hitting on their part. (from Scott)
April 18th -VS- Carthage Knights of Columbus (scrimmage game)
We were well out numbered, about 18 to 8, I think they may have taken it a little more serious than we did. We fell in an early hole, before scoring three runs in the third to get to within 4-3. Then our bats left us again and we did not score the rest of the game. They hit the ball well, and stranded a lot of men on base, leaving the bases loaded three times in six innings, and Scott threw out two men at third or else it could have been a lot uglier. I am not sure of the final score, but it was a lot to three. It may have been a little more respectable if we had our full team there. (from Scott)
April 12th -VS- Fellowship Ambassadors (Fellowship Baptist)
Beautiful weather for the season opener. Fellowship changed their name but most of the team players returned. It was *really* different using the pitching mat for strike zone.
We got off to our usual slow start, scoreless into the 3rd with strong defense. The we found our bats and traded hits making it 10-2 in the 5th. Fellowship didn't play that bad, they just didn't get the hits. We scored another 4 in the 6th, ending on a 12-run rule with a win at 14-2.
We were down 3 players, so thank-you to the subs who came out.
